“NOW THERE WAS A RICH MAN…AND A POOR MAN NAMED LAZARUS WAS LAID AT HIS GATE....” (LUKE 16: 19-20)
by Barnabas
Life after death is a popular topic of debate today.  Even in the Church there are many who want to downplay the Biblical reality of eternal judgment after death for those who have rejected Christ Jesus and His Gospel of redemption, in favor of a more “positive” and “seeker friendly” approach, one that isn’t so “negative”.  But what does the Bible say about life after death?  We can learn a lot from the stories Jesus shared in the Gospels, especially the testimony of the Rich Man and Lazarus

"JESUS...AS WAS HIS CUSTOM..." (LUKE 4:14-16)
by Barnabas

“And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.” (Luke 4:16)

Dear Brethren, Family & Friends,

Customs help to define a culture, and as we study the life of Jesus Christ, we can learn a lot about the culture of the Kingdom of God.

It was Jesus’ “custom” to go to fellowship with other believers, to read the Word of God, and to teach God’s Word to others.  But it was also His “custom” to heal the sick, the lame, the blind and the leper.  His “custom” was to forgive sins, preach the Gospel and to pray, and so much more.

In this world that is filled with spiritual darkness, as we yield to the Holy Spirit and allow the Word of God to live in us, we can “let our light shine” so that lost men, women and children will be drawn to Christ Jesus as we model the “customs” of His Kingdom.

We hope that this newsletter will be an encouragement to you and help you in your walk of faith in Christ Jesus.  And as it was Jesus’ “custom” to pray for others, we hope that you will set aside some time to pray for the missionaries and their families that are listed.  In some cases, we cannot even provide you their names, but the Lord knows your heart and He knows them.  Your prayers on their behalf helps them to stand firm in their faith and have victory in the face of opposition from the devil.

In these trying times, may the Lord continue to have Mercy on us all.

“O THAT A MAN MIGHT PLEAD WITH GOD AS A MAN WITH HIS NEIGHBOR!” (JOB 16:21)
by Barnabas
In these trying times it is all the more important that we encourage one another to stay close to the Lord.  Our relationship with God our Father through His Spirit and the Word will comfort and sustain us regardless of what we have to face.  The Bible has many testimonies of those who endured times of suffering, trial and persecution.  For some those were times when their fellowship with the Lord grew deeper and more intimate, while for others, it was the suffering that led them to the feet of Jesus to be saved.

Our relationship with our God and Savior grows as we spend time in His Word and through prayer.  As the financial and political pillars of the international community and America grow weaker, it is critical that we encourage one another to put our trust in the Lord all the more.  Remembering the Lord’s great deliverance of His people on the shores of the Red Sea, King David wrote “Some trust in Chariots and some in horses, but we will trust in the Name of the Lord our God.” (Psalm 20:7)

Let’s encourage one another to read the Word, remembering that it was the Lord who delivered then and it is the Lord who will deliver now, so that when the trials come we can endure, both for God’s glory and our benefit.

"BE OF SOBER SPIRIT, BE ON THE ALERT..." (1PETER 5:8)
by Barnabas

When we look at what is going on in the world, especially the political and economic turmoil, we can be tempted to interpret these events as just part of the ongoing cycle of human civilization. But if we want to have peace in the midst of what is happening, faith not fear, we need to allow the Word of God to give us understanding so that we can know how these events fit into God’s timeline as He prepares the world for the Second Coming of His Son, Jesus Christ.

"WELL DONE THOU GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT..." (MATTHEW 25:21)
by Barnabas

We know from the Scriptures that judgment is coming upon the whole world someday.  But the Word of God says also othat there is a special "judgment" for the believers at the Bema Seat, or the Judgment Seat of Christ.  That is when the Christian is judged for the work that was done for the Kingdom of God after they came to faith in Jesus Christ.

What will we hear the Lord say on that day?  Will it be "Well done!"

Let's encourage one another to live our lives so that they will be pleasing in the sight of God the Father and bear good fruit for His Kingdom.

"CHOOSE YOU THIS DAY WHOM YOU WILL SERVE.” (JOSHUA 24:15)
by Barnabas

Salvation is a mystery, but God’s Sovereignty and Authority are not.  In this sin sick and fallen world, Christians must continually choose to yield to the Word of God and obey the Lord so that lost men, women and children will be drawn to Christ through our living sacrifice on His behalf.

Jesus said that when we suffer because we are saved it is a blessing.  Today, in Israel, there are ultra-orthodox Jews who are persecuting Christians.  Homes and churches have been bombed - believers have been beaten - all because born-again Jews and Gentile Christians are walking in obedience to Jesus Christ.  We are to be a blessing to Israel according to God's Word.  But the only true blessing we can give is the Gospel.  The ancestors of these people, the Pharisees, persecuted Jesus and the Apostles.  Today, this spirit of anti-Christ is still persecuting the Church.

Abraham believed.  That was all that was necessary to be found pleasing in the sight of His God and Creator, Jesus Christ.  Abraham was led by the Spirit to go to a place that God the Father would reveal to him.  Abraham obeyed the One who spoke, and the God who spoke proved Himself over and over again.  It is important for Christians to believe and obey following the example of our father Abraham.  In these times of undertainty, Faith in God is our greatest weapon against dispair.

"AND MY HOUSE SHALL BE FULL"
by Barnabas

There is a line from a famous old hymn, "There's room at the cross for you."  Not only is there room at the cross for every sinner to find reconciliation with God the Father through the Blood of His Son Jesus Christ, there is also room in the Father's House for every soul that has ever been conceived in the image of God.  After His resurrection, Jesus commisioned His Body, His Church to work the worldwide harvest so that His Father's House would indeed, be filled with "born-again, spirit filled" believers.  Salvation was made available to "whosoever" at the cross.  But we need to go and make the appeal - repent and believe - so that "whosoever" can turn from their sins and be saved.

“…IN THE LAST DAYS PERILOUS TIMES SHALL COME…" MARCH/APRIL 2010 NEWSLETTER
by Barnabas

God has given His Word to the world.  The Bible contains God's plan for the ages, from Genesis to the end of the world as we know it.  All along the timeline of human history, the Lord has sent His messengers out into the world to declare the Truth.  We have that Truth codified in the Scriptures.  When the Apostle Paul was waiting in prision in Rome awating his excecution for preaching the Gospel, he wrote his second epistle to Timothy declaring that in the "last days" perilous times would come.  As we look around the world today, we can only say that these indeed are "perilous times."  The days may be full of turmoil and instability, but we who believe have hope.  Our hope is in Christ Jesus and His eternal promise that He would return for those who have "believed on His name are are saved."  This is the last hour and we have the responsibility to do the Gospel so that lost souls might still be able to "escape the wrath to come" through faith in Jesus the Christ.

God the Father Almighty declares in His Word that His burden is for the souls of men, women and children who are dwelling on the earth - no matter what the age.  The Bible, His Holy Scriptures, bear witness to the Truth that His Son Jesus was sent into the world to "save sinners" and through His sacrifice on the cross, make payment in full for the sins of all men, all women and all children.  It is up to the Church - the Body of Christ on earth - to continue to take that message into every nation, culture and people group on the planet.  We as believers have an undeniable responsibility to obey the commands of Christ and "go into all the world" and preach the Gospel.  It is through the preaching of the Gospel that souls can be saved.

THE BATTLE FOR THE SOUL OF HAITI - JANUARY '10 NEWSLETTER

The earthquake in Haiti is big news.  An island nation of less than ten million people could suffer a death toll of more than 250,000.  The Bible says that in the last days there will be an increase of earthquakes, and the Book of Revelation says that there will come a day when the last earthquake will level the mountains and cause every island to disappear.  Today is the day of salvation and what Haiti needs is the Gospel.  In the aftermath of this tragedy, pray that the Church will continue to take the Truth of the Gospel to the men, women and children of Haiti.  This is a spiritual battle for souls, and it is only Jesus who saves.

As we look forward to Christmas it is important to remember that the message delivered by the angel to the “shepherds abiding in their fields” is still very Good News today.  A Savior was born – His Name is Jesus (Luke 2:8-12).

Watching what is going on in the world today, we can only look to Bible prophecy for some context and understanding.  It is only the Bible, God’s Word, which can make sense out of what is going on around us.

On the day that Jesus was born, Israel was just a province of the Roman Empire.  We may live to see the day when America is reduced to a province of the New World Order.  But in any case, these alarming political, economic and spiritual developments give us all the more reason to stay focused on the work of His Kingdom and share the gift of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

God bless you all and may the Holy Spirit both comfort and encourage you this Christmas season.

Jesus is coming again soon, we pray that you are ready.

“AND I REMEMBERED THE WORD OF THE LORD” (ACTS 11:16)

The Apostle Peter traveled with Jesus for more than three years.  He was with Jesus after His resurrecdtion until the day that Jesus ascended into heaven.  Peter heard Jesus speaking about the things of this world and the Kingdom of Heaven.  But it was after Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit entered into Peter, that the things which he had heard came to life.  Peter gives one such testimony about how the Spirit brought to rememberence what Jesus had said in Acts chapter eleven.  This is an encouragement to us to remember the "Word of the Lord" - it is an encouragement for us to read and study the Word.  Peter didn't have the Bible we do.  Peter didn't have the whole testimony of Genesis to Revelation...the testimony of Jesus the Creator - the Redeemer - the Judge.  It is critical that we remember the Word of the Lord.

The PURPOSE of the Church, according to The Word of God, is to, "equip the believers for the work of service, for the building up of the Body of Christ."  The Body can only be built by winning souls to faith in Jesus Christ.  We are all surrounded by sinners that need to be saved.  The only way they can come to Christ is by Faith, and "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God."  God the Father, in His grace and mercy has saved us, so that through us he might save others.  When we go out in obedience to His command and preach His Gospel, the seed of the Word is sown into the hearts of Men, Women and Children.  It takes obecient workers to serve the Lord of the Harvest.  The Lord desires that every Church be a sending Church - and that every believer is willing to answer the call.  Jesus did not ask us to "go into all the world" - He commanded us to go.  It is an issue of obedience.

Charles Dickens wrote a wonderful story about a sin sick soul that just could not comprehend the meaning of Christmas, the reason for the coming of the Son of Man - Jesus Christ.  His story, "A Christmas Carol", tells the tragic life of Ebenezer Scrooge.  But did you ever really understand just what happened to that greedy, stingy, mean old man?  Watch the film...and let the Spirit help you understand the need to pray for your neighbors.  Those lost despairing souls in the world who just cannot understand the true meaning of Christmas.

“…the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them…to every city and place where He Himself was going to come.” (Luke 10:1)  Jesus has given us His Holy Spirit so that wherever we are - He is there in the midst of those who are lost.  The question is this; are we obediently going to those who are lost so that they can know Christ is near, to know that “today is the day of salvation”?

Paul warned Timothy about the troubled times that would come upon the Church, a time when the Church would look so much like the world, that an onlooker would hardly be able to tell the difference. Israel kept straying from the Lord and got in bed with the things of this world. Samuel, along with the other judges and prophets were sent by God to call His people (through the Scriptures, the Church) to repent and turn away from all that the world seductively has to offer. The Lord wanted to use Israel, He wants to use the Church, to draw the lost unto Himself that they might be saved.

Amos was a farmer. His life was that of a breeder of sheep and grower of figs. One day the Lord commanded Amos to take His message of repentance to the nation of Israel. Amos did...Israel did not repent...judgment came. Amos was an ordinary man, ordinary like we all are. God uses ordinary people to do His work of delivering the message of judgment and blessing. After the Lord spoke to the prophet Ezekiel concerning the future of Israel and the destruction that would soon come, the Lord commanded him to weep and grieve (Ezekiel 21:6). When the people asked, "Why do you weep?", the prophet was to reply that he wept because he knew their future.... Are we willing to weep in the presence of the lost becuause we know their future? Read this sober but encouraging word. We can help them to flee the wrath that is to come.

Numbers - we live in a world that is measured in every way and numbers are used as a method to communicate "reality" and "truth". Do we spend much time at all weighing numbers from God's perspective? The Bible is awash with number and references to what and should be counted. Le't do the math and see if we can discern the heart of our Father and our God.

“Now there was a rich man…And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate....” (Luke 16: 19-20)
We can learn a lot from the stories Jesus shared in the Gospels, especially the testimony of the Rich Man and Lazarus  FULL STORY

"Jesus...as was His custom..." (Luke 4:14-16)

FULL STORY

"Be of sober spirit, be on the alert..." (1Peter 5:8)

When we look at what is going on in the world, especially the political and economic turmoil, we can be tempted to interpret these events as just part of the ongoing cycle of human civilization. But if we want to have peace in the midst of what is happening, faith not fear, we need to allow the Word of God to give us understanding so that we can know how these events fit into God’s timeline as He prepares the world for the Second Coming of His Son, Jesus Christ.

"Well done thou good and faithful servant..." (Matthew 25:21)

We know from the Scriptures that judgment is coming upon the whole world someday.  But the Word of God says also othat there is a special "judgment" for the believers at the Bema Seat, or the Judgment Seat of Christ.  That is when the Christian is judged for the work that was done for the Kingdom of God after they came to faith in Jesus Christ.

What will we hear the Lord say on that day?  Will it be "Well done!"

Let's encourage one another to live our lives so that they will be pleasing in the sight of God the Father and bear good fruit for His Kingdom.
